April 2011
2011 has got off to a busy start and we hope it continues, we have recently gained planning permission for a large one off house, several extensions and a small development of 8 houses. We have also been appionted on a number of new scheme which will be be reporting about.
We are also very pleased to be involved in the Emsworth Architects Review / Design Panel and hope that we can with the 'Localism'
September 2010
We gained planning permissions over the summer for many extensions and consequently have many projects on site. It would appear that new work has slowed somewhat since the early summer but we are remaining positive and looking forward to 2011. We have a new memeber of Staff in RIBA part II Leo Humprheys who has fitted well into the team. The Quay House project has been submitted for planning and we also have just submitted planning for 8 new houses in East Sussex.
June 2010
Helyer Design were delighted to win an Architectural Competition for the refurbishment of Quay House in Emsowrth. This is an exciting project on a site surrounded by water on three sides.
We have also employed Leop Humphries who will join us in July.
February 2010
Following a frosty slow start to the New Year, work has again become busy. We have many new projects on the boards and have started on site with many of the projects we gained permission for last year. In January Paul Turnbull joined us so we can benefit from his 30 years experience in the detailing of buildings. We have also recently won an Award from Worthing Borough Council for the housing scheme on Selden Road.
October 2009
The autumn has been very busy for Helyer Design. The domestic market has been very strong and business is looking good. We have also picked up some commercail projects and some housing developer work.
Planning approvals have been recieved for many small scale extensions and we have also won appeals for a new house within the grounds of a Grade 2 listed building locally, as well as a large extension to a house in the Witterings.
August 2009
We were delighted to recieve planning approval for the large scheme at Soldiers Field Stables as discussed in our June 2009 update.
Work is continuing to trickle in and we are all hoping that the downturn will soon be over. Although we are proud to say we have not lost a single memeber of staff through lack of work and hope when the larger projects return we will be well placed to react.
June 2009
We have recently submitted a large scheme for Soldiers Field Stables in Findon to develop some redundant race horse stables. We have also gained approval on appeal for a large garage near Chichester and the creation of a new stair in a Listed building near Worthing. Other recent approvals have included numerous small domestic extensions, some flats in Portsmouth and a new build house near Chichester.
We are also pleased to see the successful completion of a £1m one off house in Chelmsford, as well as other large one off houses in Chilworth and Chichester. Our sites in Bosham and Cheam also progressing well with completions due in the Autumn.
April 2009
As the downturn in work continues, we are happy that we can still operate well in the domestic market, this supplemented with our medical projects and set dressing projects results in us still having a steady workflow. New projects include, an extension to a dental surgery, numerous extensions ranging from £15k to £200k and 3 new build houses.
November 2008
Helyer Design Ltd were pleased to recieve Comendations from Arun District Council for recently completed projects including The Paddocks, Pensway and Fig Tree Cottage. These were awarded by the Conservation Advisory Committee and were awarded for projects which sat harmonously in their surrounding, good choice of materials, design and craftsmanship.
Workwise we remain strong with a new appointment for 14 flats in Waterlooville, alarge housing scheme in Soutnbourne, a new build house in Bosham and many other small domestic projects/ extensions.
August 2008
With workload still strong we have welcomed Victoria Austin to the company. Victoria has a degree in Architecture and has gained working architectural experience in countries including China, Australia and of course England.
We have also upgraded our computer system so that all drawings up to the stage of planning approval will be produced on 3D software. This enables us to demostrate designs to clients and planning departments in perspectives, renderings and fly throughs. as well as the standard plans sections and elevations. We have been producing 3D drawings since 2003 but only for projects where budgets allowed. The new software allows this to become the norm rather than the exception.
July 2008
Since the slump in the housing market it would appear that developers will for a while hold off starting new sites. Therefore, in the spring we stepped up the domestic part of the company to accommodate more private houses and major refurbishments and through doing this workload is actually stronger than this time last year. We now have 8 large one off private residences either on site or about to start. Other works on site include Forest Hills in Worthing [http://www.forest-hills-worthing.co.uk], Station Road Worthing and Customs House in Portslade.
We have recently been commissioned on a large site in Hampshire to provide 14 dwelling.
We are also tendering on a commission for 40 flats in West Sussex.
March 2008.
Established in our new offices and with additional staff 2008 has already been a busy year. We have recieved planning approval for 18 flats and Town houses on a site in Worthing with a further 7 flats on a nearby site. We have also gained permission for a large on off house on the outskirts on Chichester.
The orthodontic Surgery in Fareham is now finished and the client is very happy with the building. The flats on Wordsworth Road in Worthing have also been completed and the 13 solar panels on the roof are all working providing hot water even on drab February days.
As ever we are currently trying to source more staff and are looking to recruit Technologists and Architects.
December 2007
Helyer Design have moved to new larger offices in the Old Flour Mill in Emsworth. They are only about 100 yards from our old office but are 4 times larger. This will provide us with enough space to grow over the next few years.
We also have been instructed to commence works on a number of new housing projects including one on 5 acres of land and another on the site of a former stable.
April 2007
Spring 2007 has been a successful and busy time for Helyer Design, during March alone we gained planning permission for :
16 luxury apartments on Hayling Rise, Worthing.
13 flats on Station Road, Worthing.
8 Flats in Rowlands Road, Worthing.
4 Flats on Anson Road in Goring.
1 large house in Eastergate
Extending a large house in Alsdworth
An office and industrial unit in Lancing.
We have also submitted applications for the 24 units on Tarring Road and 13 units on Shelley Road in Worthing.
To cope with this workload we have employed a new full time member of staff - Martin Peryagh. Martin joins us as an Architectural Technologist. We have also upgraded our draughting Software to AutoCAD 2008.
February 2007
2007 has seen the employment of more staff. Our part-time staff have also grown to now include Daniel and Arun.
Tom and Martin have successfully completed the Green Register Course and we are now Registered 'Green' Architects. Hopefully this will now manifest itself in our future and present work.
The house in Walberton has now been completed and will be added to the website shortly. We have also been commissioned to submit a planning application for another large house in Chelmsford. The House in Cheam has been submitted to Building Control and will be starting on site shortly.
Planning permissions have been submitted for a large house in Eastergate and 2 further houses in Alderbury. The Station Road scheme is now with the Local Authority as a detailed planning application and Hayling Rise has been submitted as an outline application.
December 2006
We have recently gained outline planning permission for the 15 unit scheme on Station Road in Worthing and are shortly due submit applications for 2 further similar sized schemes; one on Tarring Road and another on Hayling Rise. We have also gained planning permission for a very large one off housing in Cheam.
Our housing scheme at Half Moon Court has completed and people are due to move in prior to Christmas.
The house at Walberton has had a very good start and is due for completion in February 2007.
We have also gained planning permission for the conversion of a large house into a specialist Orthodontic Surgery for David Gale. Currently the project is with contractors for pricing and building control. Work is due to start on site in early spring next year.
Due to national and local government pressures sustainable design issues are coming higher on clients agendas. In a response to this we are off to the Genesis Project in Taunton in January for a two day course to build on our environmental awareness and knowledge. As a young practice we are already committed to using high levels of insulation, low impact building materials and renewable energy sources. This can be seen in three of our current housing schemes where we are experimenting with rainwater recycling, ground source heat pumps, solar panels etc. We are currently tendering on am eco house/ study centre in Liphook where we hope to further develop our design ideas with a more holistic approach to sustainable design and construction.

July 2006
On the 1st July, Helyer Design Ltd. relocated from 207 Main Road Emsworth to 2 Queen Street, Emsworth. The new premises are larger than the old and will enable the future employment of more staff.
We have also recently been instructed to prepare a detailed planning application for the development of Station Road in Worthing for 15 residential units.
Planning permission has come through from Chichester District Council for the sub division of a barn in Fishbourne into two separate dwellings. Construction drawings had already been prepared in anticipation of this and work has already started on site.
